How did you decide on a team name?
-Our custom made smoker, named the “Lil’ Chub” also has a Weber Kettle on the front of it. We started brainstorming and came to the conclusion that since we have 2 grills on our trailer, “Hot Grill on Grill Action” was the perfect name. Had we not come up with that, we had been tossing around the team name “School of Smoke.”
Is this a full-time job? If not, what does each member do for a living?
-No, this is our hobby, although our wives would argue it’s an obsession.
-Ryan Amys is a pre-construction Manager for EAD Constructors, an Engineering company.
-Matt Frampton is a Professional Services Consultant for Wausau Financial Systems, they primarily work with Banks all over the country.
-Logan Hendrickson is a Branch Manager for Aureus Medical, a nationwide healthcare staffing firm.
-Chis Yelick manages a 1,500 agent virtual call center for a cable shopping network.
How did you get started into barbeque competition?
It all started one hot summer’s evening in 2006, when Ryan Amys received a Weber Bullet smoker for his birthday, bestowed upon him by his father and local legendary BBQ competitor, “Slippery” Pete Amys Sr. of Omaha’s Blowing smoke. Ryan and Matt Frampton decided over a couple of cold PBRs to sign up for a local BBQ competition.
After a decent 2007 BBQ season, Ryan and Matt decided that the team wasn’t quite complete, so they invited their longtime friends Logan Hendrickson and Chris Yelick to join the BBQ team. Logan and Chris readily accepted the invitation, and Hot Grill on Grill Action as it stands today was formed.
How long have you been involved in competitions?
Since 2006.
This is our 4th season as Hot Grill on Grill Action.
